Project Spotlight: Duro-Last Metal Retrofit Roof in Rockford, IL

Duro-Last Metal Retrofit Roof in Rockford, IL

This recent project in Rockford, Illinois, is a great example of how we can restore an aging metal roof with a long-lasting solution using the innovative Duro-Last Metal Retrofit System. This approach allowed us to avoid the costly and time-consuming process of removing the old metal roof while still providing a durable and waterproof solution.

Project Overview

The existing metal roof on Pyramid Drive had started to show its age with visible signs of wear, including seam issues, fastener problems, and minor leaks around roof penetrations. Our goal was to provide a solution that would address these issues without a full roof replacement. The Duro-Last Retrofit Metal Roof System was the perfect choice, as it not only covers and protects the existing roof but also minimizes future maintenance by sealing out water, preventing rust, and eliminating seam issues.

Here are the installation steps our professional roofers followed to complete the project.

  • Preparing the Roof Surface:
    • The first step in the retrofit process was installing tapered EPS flute fillers between the roof flues. Flute filler fills the void between metal roof channels and seams. It provides a uniform and level substrate for the new roof system.
  • Installing High-Density ISO Board:
    • After placing the flute fillers, we installed a ½-inch high-density ISO board over them. This layer created a flat, rigid surface for a smooth application of the Duro-Last membrane.
  • Applying the Duro-Last PVC RhinoBond System:
    • The core of the retrofit was the installation of a 50-mil Duro-Last PVC membrane, attached using the RhinoBond induction welding system. This system bonds the membrane to the roof deck using non-penetrating PVC-coated plates, reducing the potential for leaks. The RhinoBond system is highly resistant to extreme weather and keeps the membrane securely attached for years to come.
  • Flashing and Penetration Sealing:
    • Part of the advantage of hiring commercial roofing experts like H.C. Anderson Roofing Company is the attention to detail in critical spaces. Our contractors flashed all roof penetrations according to Duro-Last manufacturer specifications, ensuring that every edge and junction was watertight. This protects against leaks in high-risk areas around HVAC units, vents, and skylights.
  • Securing the Membrane Over Gutters and Edges:
    • Extending the membrane over the face of the roof, we terminated it into the existing gutters to ensure water flows smoothly off the roof. For additional protection along the edges, we installed a 1 ¾-inch fascia bar, securing the membrane and providing a clean, professional finish.
  • Final Clean-Up and Quality Inspection:
    • After completing the installation, our team removed all roofing debris from the site. A Duro-Last representative will conduct a post-installation inspection to make sure our client qualifies for the full warranty coverage. A 15-year, no-dollar-limit warranty covering both labor and materials was provided for this particular project.
