A Duro-Tuff Rhinobond Attached Roof Installation in Belvidere, Illinois

Roof replacement project in Belvidere, Illinois

This roofing project overview recaps a job we completed for a manufacturing building in Belvidere, IL. As Northern Illinois’ largest applicator of the Duro-Last Roofing System, we were familiar with the challenges the client faced with restoring an aging commercial roof. Here’s a summary of the materials and process we used to protect the business from the wind, rain, and snow that are all too common in the Belvidere and Boone County areas.

Project Overview

This project called for the installation of a PVC membrane as an overlay on the existing roof.

  • Roof Surface Preparation: First, we installed 1-inch EPS insulation over the existing roof. This created a smooth and even surface, which is necessary for the proper application of the roofing membrane. EPS insulation is known for its lightweight yet durable properties, providing an ideal base layer that improves energy efficiency and adds thermal protection to the building.
  • Duro-Tuff Rhinobond Attached Roofing System: Next, we applied a 50 MIL Duro-Tuff membrane using the Rhinobond attachment system. This is a high-performance PVC roof membrane designed for flexibility and durability. It will also help reduce the building’s energy costs by reflecting sunlight. The Rhinobond system, an advanced induction-welding method, ensured that the membrane was securely attached without the need for penetrative fasteners, minimizing potential leak points.
  • Flashing and Securing Penetrations: Proper flashing is essential to waterproofing a commercial roof, especially around areas where HVAC units, vents, or other equipment penetrate the roof surface. Our team flashed all vents and access points according to Duro-Last’s quality standards.
  • Membrane Termination: Our roofers secured the new membrane by extending it over the roof’s edges and terminated it with mastic, which is a sealant that provides an extra barrier against moisture infiltration. All overhangs were trimmed back to 1.5-2 inches to achieve a clean, professional finish.

Final Inspection and Warranty

A Duro-Last Quality Assurance Representative was called on to conduct a final inspection of the installation to verify everything adhered to manufacturer guidelines. Following the inspection, a 15-year No Dollar Limit (NDL) warranty was issued to the building owner, covering both labor and materials. Any leaks or issues are fully covered by H.C. Anderson Roofing for the first two years and by Duro-Last for the remainder of the warranty period. We are proud to offer this extensive warranty as part of our service as a certified Duro-last contractor.
