One of our latest projects took us to Dixon, IL, where we were hired to replace the existing roof of a machine and metal shop without disrupting daily operations.
Project Overview
This facility included two sections of metal gable roofing, joined by a flat roof. The existing roof had begun to show signs of aging, including leaks, metal corrosion, and material degradation. In order to save on costs related to a full roof removal, we installed a Duro-Last Metal Retrofit Roofing System to cover the existing metal roof.
Our team installed the new roof system over the existing metal deck using a Duro-Tuff 50 mil membrane mechanically attached with the RhinoBond system. This approach significantly reduced waste and disposal costs and offers superior insulation and long-term protection.
Installation Materials and Steps
EPS Flute Filler Installation : After removing the old membrane, we filled the metal roof’s flutes with expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation to create a smooth, even base for the new system.
1/2″ Cover Board Application: Next, we added a durable cover board layer to provide an optimal surface for membrane attachment.
Rhino-Bond Attached Duro-Tuff Membrane: We installed the 50 mil white Duro-Tuff membrane using the RhinoBond system. This unique method utilizes a non-penetrating induction-weld method that securely bonds the membrane to the deck without compromising the membrane material.
Flashing: All rooftop penetrations for HVAC equipment and machine ventilation were then flashed according to manufacturer specifications.
Duro-Last Quality Inspection and Warranty
Once installation was complete, a Duro-Last technical representative inspected the job to ensure it met all manufacturer guidelines to qualify for warranty coverage. After inspection, we provided the client with a 15-year No Dollar Limit (NDL) labor and material warranty.
Built to Last
Duro-Last membranes are custom-fabricated to reduce labor and the number of seam points, leading to a more efficient and durable installation. The 50 mil thickness used in this project will last for many years, while the bright white color improves the building’s energy efficiency by reflecting UV rays.
