H.C. Anderson Roofing was recently chosen as the roofing contractor for the construction of a new Kwik Star gas station, located at 16040 Oakfield Parkway in South Beloit, IL. Here is an overview of the project and the materials we used to complete the job.
Project Overview
This project required a flat roof system that would be durable, energy-efficient, and long-lasting. The solution involved installing a RhinoBond-attached 60mil TPO Roofing System, which is known for its toughness, flexibility, and resistance to harsh environmental factors.
- Insulation
To ensure proper insulation and energy efficiency, we began by installing two layers of 2.6-inch ISO insulation. This provided the roof with an R30 rating, which is essential for maintaining temperature control inside the building and reducing energy costs. - TPO Roofing System Installation
After the insulation was in place, we installed the 60mil TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) membrane using the RhinoBond attachment system. This system is known for its superior strength and durability, minimizing the risk of leaks by reducing the need for traditional fasteners. The TPO membrane is highly resistant to UV radiation, ozone, and chemicals, making it an ideal solution for commercial buildings like Kwik Star. - Flashing and Walk Mats Installation
We flashed all roofing penetrations and adhered the roofing system to the building’s walls according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Additionally, we installed walk mats in key areas to provide safe access for future maintenance without damaging the roof membrane. - Perimeter Coping and Gutter System
At the membrane’s perimeter parapets, we installed over 150 feet of 24-gauge shop-fabricated coping, complete with a continuous front cleat and washered fasteners. This coping ensures a clean, finished look while protecting the roof edges from wind and water infiltration.
In addition, we installed approximately 110 feet of 24-gauge shop-fabricated fascia cladding at the gutter edge, along with a commercial box gutter system that included five downspouts. These downspouts were connected to the underground drainage system for rainwater management. - Roof Hatch and Safety Features
To provide easy access to the roof, we installed an S-20 Roof Hatch and ladder-up post, ensuring that maintenance personnel can safely and easily access the roof in the future. - Vacuum Hut Trash Enclosure
As part of the project, we also added cover to the trash enclosure by installing 24-gauge shop-fabricated coping with fasteners, as well as a through-wall scupper with trim, a conductor head, and a downspout. - Daily Clean-Up and Inspection
Throughout the project, our team maintained a clean and safe job site, removing debris daily. After completion, an inspection was conducted by the manufacturer to make sure it complied with warranty requirements.
At H.C. Anderson Roofing, we are proud of the work we completed for the new Kwik Star location in South Beloit. The new roof not only enhances the durability and energy efficiency of the building but it also looks great. For peace of mind, we provided a 20-year No Dollar Limit (NDL) labor and material warranty to stand behind our work.
