We are proud to announce the completion of a roof replacement for the historic Second First Church, located at 318 N. Church Street in Rockford, IL. This project centered around the church’s multi-purpose building, which also houses their outreach ministry for the residents of Rockford. This building has been a beacon of hope for many in the area and H.C. Anderson was honored to be trusted as the contractor for the project.
Project Overview
- Preparation and Flute Filling
The project began with surface preparation. We installed EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) Flute Filler on the existing metal deck of the roof. This step is important to make sure the roof surface is smooth and rigid, which supports the installation of the flat roofing system. The EPS material helps to fill in the gaps between the ridges of the metal roof, creating a flat surface for the next layer. - Installing the Coverboard
After flute filling, we installed a ½-inch high-density coverboard. This coverboard adds an additional layer of rigidity and protection, providing the optimal surface for the membrane installation. It also enhances the roof’s resistance to punctures and other forms of damage. - PVC Duro-Tuff RhinoBond Roofing System
For the roofing membrane, we used a 50-mil PVC Duro-Tuff RhinoBond system. This single-ply membrane is designed for exceptional weather resistance, flexibility, and energy efficiency. The RhinoBond system attaches to the roof using induction weld technology, which reduces the need for fasteners and minimizes the potential for leaks. - Termination and Finishing
To ensure a seamless and durable finish, we terminated the roofing system around the perimeter of both roof sections with a termination bar. This final step secures the edges of the roofing membrane, preventing wind uplift and water penetration. - Inspection and Warranty
After the installation was complete, a representative from Duro-Last conducted an inspection of the new roof for warranty certification. We are proud to offer a 15-year NDL (No Dollar Limit) labor and materials warranty on this project, which gives the church staff confidence that the new roof is protected for many years.
Why We Chose Duro-Tuff RhinoBond
We selected the Duro-Tuff RhinoBond roofing system for this project because of its outstanding durability and energy-saving properties. The PVC membrane is resistant to UV radiation, fire, and extreme weather conditions. We also utilized the RhinoBond attachment system, which minimizes the need for fasteners. This combination provides excellent protection against wind damage, punctures, and leaks. The Duro-Tuff RhinoBond system also features a white finish that reflects sunlight and will reduce the building’s cooling costs over the long term.
