This recent Duro-Tuff installation project at the new Casey’s Convenience Store and Gas Station, located at 1290 State Route 59 in Naperville, IL, is an example of our work with new construction projects in the area.
The location has been home to a gas station for many years, but the new owners wanted to upgrade the store to include more modern features. Since the original store (Bucky’s Mobil Gas Station), this was a new construction project from the ground up. The original gas pump island and canopy were preserved, but they were given a facelift with updated branding and signage.
Project Overview
H.C. Anderson Roofing Company was hired to install a durable, energy-efficient roofing system that would stand the test of time. Because our portfolio includes other gas stations like this one in South Beloit, we had proven experience that helped us to stand out in the bidding process.
Here is an overview of the materials and process used for this project:
1. Insulation and Cover Board Installation
We began by installing 7¼” EPS insulation, topped with ¼” DensDeck® cover board. These layers were adhered per manufacturer specifications to provide a strong foundation with excellent thermal performance and moisture resistance.
2. Duro-Tuff PVC Roofing System
For this job we chose a 50-mil Duro-Tuff roofing membrane secured using a fully adhered system. This single-ply membrane is part of the Duro-Last family and offers flexibility, UV resistance, and long-term reliability. It’s built to handle the challenges of Midwest weather, and the reflectivity of the membrane helps control indoor temperatures and energy costs.
3. Flashing and Penetrations
All roofing penetrations were flashed to Duro-Last manufacturer specifications, providing watertight integrity across the entire roof surface.
4. Custom Metal Fabrications
In addition to membrane work, we supplied and installed high-quality 24-gauge shop-fabricated trim and components, including:
- Flashing at six through-wall scuppers
- Three conductor heads with downspouts connected to underground drainage
- A continuous water table with cleat installation at fourteen decorative pier caps
The water table is an edge feature designed to deflect storm water away from the foundation and walls. All flashing pieces were installed for both performance and visual appeal to complement the design of the new store.
5. Final Inspection and Warranty
Part of the Duro-Last warranty process includes a final inspection by their quality assurance team. This is a valuable perk for our clients because it provides a third-party inspection on the work our team has done. It also confirms the warranty terms and conditions. In this case, the client received a 15-year Duro-Last No Dollar Limit (NDL) warranty, which covers both materials and labor. This industry-leading warranty is a testament to the quality of the Duro-Tuff product and the confidence we have in our crew’s work.
