H.C. Anderson Roofing Company is proud to announce the completion of a roof replacement project for the Forest Preserve of Winnebago County headquarters, located at 5500 Northrock Drive in Rockford, IL. The project involved replacing the aging roof with new, modern materials that will serve the facility for many years to come.
Project Overview
- Removal of Existing Roof Materials: The project began with the removal of the old roof, including shingles, damaged sheeting, drip edge, flashing, and vent stack boots.
- Deck Sheeting Installation: To provide additional support, we installed 7/16” OSB deck sheeting where needed. This step ensured the roof’s structure was sound and capable of supporting the new roofing materials.
- Underlayment Installation: We used ABC Pro Guard 20 Synthetic Underlayment, known for its durability and water-resistant properties. This underlayment acts as an essential barrier against moisture, protecting the building’s interior from water damage.
- Shingle Installation: For this project, we installed CertainTeed Landmark Pro architectural asphalt shingles. These shingles were selected for their superior weather resistance and aesthetic appeal. The Landmark Pro shingles also come with a warranty, providing peace of mind for Forest Preserve management.
- Ice Guard Application: To prevent ice dams during the colder months, we installed WinterGuard waterproofing shingle underlayment. This protective layer is crucial for protecting against winter water leaks caused by ice dams and wind-driven rain in roof valleys, eaves, and flashing points.
- Finishing Touches: Finally, we installed new drip edges, flashing, and vent stack boots to complete the roof. These components ensure that water is properly channeled away from different areas of the roof, further extending its lifespan.
Challenges and Solutions
One of the primary challenges of this project was ensuring the building remained open and accessible for both customers and employees during construction. Our union contractors worked efficiently and safely, minimizing disruption to the daily operations of the Forest Preserve Headquarters. We coordinated closely with the facility’s management to schedule our work during times that would have the least impact on their activities.
Conclusion
The new roof at the Forest Preserve Headquarters is not just a replacement; it’s an upgrade that enhances the building’s functionality, safety, and appearance. We are proud to have been a part of this project and look forward to continuing our tradition of roofing excellence in Rockford, IL and beyond.
